Juniors - 2 to 3 yearsRatio: 1 Teacher for every 5 Children
Welcome to the Junior Room at Halton Hills Child Care Centre! Juniors learn best in safe, loving places where they can explore in their own way. Our junior child care providers support the children's growth with hands-on exploration and social interactions. The set up is an engaging one in order to help the children learn about their expanding world. During the children's time in the junior classroom, we witness an amazing explosion of language and new independence skills such as toilet training, dressing and undressing. The children get so excited when they realize their own abilities and shout "I did it!". Curriculum Our child care providers set up an active learning environment where children can look, listen, wiggle, roll, bounce, rest, eat and make noise. Materials provided appeal to the children's senses and include wool, metal, textures and natural items. These materials allow the children to learn through discovery. |
Daily ActivitiesScience/Nature
Our science tables offer many items to investigate and manipulate such as looking at bugs through a magnifying glass or feeling the texture of different natural objects. Group Time During group time, the children take part in fun songs, finger plays and dance with focus on the children's interests. Blocks The children playing with blocks are practicing a wide variety of developmental skills including manipulating objects, creating structures, working together and enriching vocabulary. Literacy The children gain an appreciation of books as our child care providers introduce a variety of delightful stories. Outdoor Time Twice a day, the juniors go to the toddler/junior playground or for a walk in the neighbourhood. The children have many opportunities to explore while practicing large body movements, as well as small movements of hands and fingers. |
