TODDLERS PROGRAM

Toddlers - 18 to 30 months

Ratio: 1 Teacher for every 5 Children

Welcome to the Toddler Room at Halton Hills Child Care Centre!

Toddlers are bursting with energy and very curious about their environment as they develop their walking, running and problem solving skills.  Vocabularies are still developing, with “mine” and “no” topping the list of favourite words.  Soon enough,  young toddlers learn to express themselves through short sentences.

The toddler child care providers plan a variety of ever changing activities throughout the day to provide opportunities for independence, growth and learning.

Toddlers love to fill & dump, push & pull, stack and  manipulate everything they can get their hands on during playtime – singing “Old McDonald” and making animal noises is always a favourite!

Curriculum
The toddler program offers an age appropriate activities based on the child care providers observations of the children.  They ask themselves:
  • What do I see?
  • What do I hear?
  • What do I think?
  • How can I support an emerging interest?

Areas of Learning

Creative Arts
Children create and explore the properties of different materials using their imagination and self expression.

Literacy
The love of books and reading is encouraged while supporting language development.

Sensory
Children build eye-hand coordination and fine motor skills through sand and water play.

Block Centre
In the block centre, the children develop and follow through with a plan, develop co-operative play while building math and language skills.

Dramatic Centre
Taking turns, role playing and building social skills happen as the children engage pretend play with their peers.

Outdoor Time
Twice a day, the toddlers go to the toddler/junior playground or for a walk in the neighbourhood.  During outdoor time, the toddlers have the opportunity to explore using their whole body; running, crawling, digging, and riding.
